Paris Hilton: Celebrity News

On getting in trouble with the law:
“I think I get in more trouble just because of who I am. The cops do it all the time. They’ll just pull me over to hit on me. It’s really annoying. They’re like, ‘What’s your phone number? Want to go to dinner?’ They won’t even give me a ticket. They just pull me over, and the paparazzi, of course, take a picture. All the time. I have so many cops’ business cards.”

On going out:
“I don’t really go out as much anymore. If I do go out, I go out at like 11 and stay till 12. If it’s the weekend, I have parties at my house, because only cheese balls go out on the weekend.”

On what people think of her:
“It’s weird sometimes. I think people think I’m not human. They feel like they know me from seeing me in all those things, and they come up with their own explanation of what they think I am. They say, ‘She doesn’t work.’ I work! Every single day, I’m traveling around the world. I wouldn’t have been able to do this, without working. It’s just annoying to me that people think things like that.”

On how many pictures she has of herself:
“A lot, It’s just for fun. I’m looking for another house right now, in Malibu, and another in Bel Air. I’m going to keep this house as my office, or a party place, or whatever. In my new hous, I will not have pictures of myself everywhere. It will be my more mature home.”

On aspiring to be like Martha Stewart:
“Maybe when I’m old.”

On falling out with Nicole in 2004:
“There was no reason why we were fighting; it was just silly. We believed what other people were saying. People are really two faced in this town, and they were trying to play us against each other. It made me sadder than any breakup with a boyfriend. It was just like the worst feeling ever.”

Celebrity heiress Paris Hilton may have her forthcoming jail sentence cut in half, US authorities have said.

Time off for good behaviour and prison overcrowding could mean Hilton spends just three weeks in jail.

"It's possible it could be 21 days, 23 days," said Los Angeles County sheriff spokesman Steve Whitmore.

Paris Hilton must be terrified of going to jail right now - not only is being locked in a room for 23 hours a day with a burly monobrowed tattooed violent kidnapper totally not hot, but all the other inmates seem to want to kill Paris Hilton too.

Paris Hilton has been flooded with death threats by angry female prisoners. Prisoners who want her shoes.

"The hotel heiress started receiving death threats on her MySpace.com page the day after she was sentenced to serve time for violating her probation by driving with a suspended license. The insider says, "These maniacs have been writing, 'We're going to get you,' and, 'I'm going to kill you.' It's horrifying. One person wrote that she's going to steal Paris' shoes when she gets to jail - and if Paris argues, she'll be beaten to a pulp."

Paris Hilton has issued the following statement through attorney Richard Hutton:

"After reading the media's coverage of my court hearing, I feel the need to correct what I believe are misperceptions about me. I absolutely realize how serious driving under the influence is. I could not live with myself if anyone was injured or killed while I was driving while impaired. Clearly, no one should -- no matter how slightly.

I am ready to face the consequences of violating probation.

No one is above the law. I surely am not. I do not expect to be treated better than anyone else who violated probation. However, my hope is that I will not be treated worse."

The 26-year-old party girl - who is facing 45 days behind bar after being caught behind the wheel despite being banned for drinking driving - is backing an online petition set up by supporters saying she should not be jailed because she "provides beauty and excitement to our otherwise mundane lives".

But we at The Daily Telegraph Online believe the petition is an outrage and have started our own online poll to make sure she serves her time and sets the right example to her impressionable fans.

For years The Daily Telegraph has campaigned on the issue of road safety, demanding - among many positive measures - tougher sentences for offenders... particularly repeat offenders.

Far too many lives are lost and horrific injuries caused as result of reckless driving.

Recording Artists, Actors and Athletes Against Drink Driving also attacked the petition to get her off as a cheap stunt that could negatively influence young drivers who idolised the hotel heiress.

And RADD  Australia director Peter Rubinstein said the petition, which has attracted 7000 signatures, sent a dangerous message.

"The fact they are role models, everything they do is heavily put under the microscope by young people who will look at this and think, 'I'll drink drive and if I get caught I'll just try the Paris Hilton plea','' he said.

"Unfortunately, they may never get to appear in court, they could end up wrapped around a pole, or be taken out completely and that's the end of their life."

For Hilton's flunkies to appeal for her to be let off flies in the face of our stance. What kind of message would it show if the appeal worked - that IT girls can drink-drive then ignore their driving ban?

The petiton, for California Governor and former Hollywood tough guy Arnold Schwarzenegger, is endorsed by Hilton herself, who writes on her website: "My friend Joshua started this petition, please help and sihn (sic) it. i LOVE YOU ALL!!!!!"

Hilton has been sentenced to 45 days. It is hardly life, yet it would be enough to send a message not only to young and impressionable fans but, hopefully, also to Hilton herself - and maybe even inspire her to spread the word about road safety.

A fine would mean nothing to Hilton - she is rich beyond compare - and how hard, honestly, is sweeping streets a la Naomi Campbell or Boy George? Jail is the only answer.

In a message that went up Monday on her MySpace page, the hotel heiress writes (in her own spelling): “My friend Joshua started this petition, please help and sihn it. i LOVE YOU ALL!!!!!”

The petition, directed to California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, asks that Hilton be pardoned from her sentence of 45 days in jail for violating the terms of her probation by driving with a suspended license. The punishment was handed down in Los Angeles Superior Court on Friday. An appeal has been filed.

“I urge all fans and supporters and all that are outraged by injustice to sign this petition,” writes Hilton.
