Her pithy observation: 'Dress cute wherever you go, life is too short to blend in', will stand alongside words from luminaries such as Oscar Wilde and Stephen Hawking.

Paris's saying is one of more than 20,000 new quotations to enter the seventh edition of the prestigious tome published today.

Another new entry is from former U.S. vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin, who said: 'What's the difference between a hockey mom and a pitbull? Lipstick.'

Others come from the likes of British authors Terry Pratchett and Philip Pullman, Stephen Hawking, Aung San Suu Kyi and late comedy host and jazzman Humphrey Lyttelton.

Some are not as new as they seem. Barack Obama's contribution, 'The arc of history is long but it bends towards justice', is similar to one used by Martin Luther King in 1968.

The dictionary, which is in its 65th year, has also added several 'new' quotes from the distant past, such as one from Confucius, the 5th century BC Chinese philosopher.

This may be because they have been used or referenced by others in recent years or that the researchers have, after decades, managed to source and verify them as genuine.

Some have taken on new relevance, such as former U.S. president Thomas Jefferson's: 'Banking establishments are more dangerous than standing armies', uttered 200 years ago.

The dictionary's editor-Elizabeth Knowles, said: 'Events may give an older utterance very topical significance  -  for example, Thomas Jefferson has for obvious reasons been quoted quite widely in the last year.'

She added that other quotes from the past sometimes become familiar to new audiences because of the internet. 'Anything quoted today, verbally or "written" in electronic-form, can be and probably will be encountered by people all over the globe,' she said.

'As more data is added to online sources, more voices from the past find a route to us today. The new edition of the dictionary reflects the impact of these changes.'

Tony Blair could perhaps do with a copy of the dictionary in his Christmas stocking. He made an embarrassing error on television in the U.S. this week by wrongly attributing a famous quote to either Winston Churchill or Oscar Wilde.

The line: 'England and America are two countries divided by a common language,' was actually said by playwright George Bernard Shaw. Mr Blair was appearing on the David Letterman show.

Paris is the latest international celebrity to donate a designer handbag to the second annual Handbag Amnesty, a partnership between handbag.com, the home of fashion, beauty, hair and celebrity and Cancer Research UK.

Handbag Amnesty 2009, part of handbag.com’s dedicated Handbag Month, will take place throughout September, culminating in an exclusive handbag.com celebrity handbag auction from 2nd – 11th October, to tie in with breast cancer awareness month.

Paris Hilton has joined other A-listers including Rachel Weisz, Rachel Bilson, Heidi Klum, Scarlett Johansson, Peaches Geldof and Alesha Dixon, all of whom have given up a favourite handbag from their personal collection. Even Alexander McQueen has donated.

All profits will go to Cancer Research UK, the largest single funder of breast cancer research in the UK, having spent £44million on groundbreaking research last year alone.

Handbag Amnesty 2009 isn’t just about celebrity donations. Members of the public are also being asked to join in the fundraising by simply taking any unwanted handbag to their local Cancer Research UK shop. Handbags are one of the most popular items in Cancer Research UK charity shops across the country and sell like hot-cakes.

In return for donating their handbags and other quality used-goods, members of the public will be able to enter a draw to win a fantastic designer handbag to replace the one they have donated.

handbag.com Digital Publisher Sara Stephenson says: “Last year was such a success in terms of celebrity and public involvement, and thanks to the joint effort from handbag.com and Cancer Research UK, more than 20 celebrities have already donated to Handbag Amnesty 2009. At this rate we’re well on the way to beating last year’s target.”

Terry Mills, of Cancer Research UK, says: “We’re delighted to be working with handbag.com again after last year’s hugely successful campaign. If as many people donate unwanted handbags and bid in the celebrity auction this year, we’ll be able to raise even more to beat breast cancer. It is now the most common cancer in the UK and although more women are surviving than ever before, there’s still a lot to do.”

For a complete list of bags up for auction as well as more information on how to help, go to www.handbag.com/amnesty.

Paris Hilton got word from the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals on Monday that she can proceed with a lawsuit against Hallmark Cards Inc.

Hilton filed suit against the Kansas City-based greeting card company for using her likeness and her catchphrases in a birthday card produced by Hallmark.

A three-judge panel in California agreed with a lower court’s decision to reject Hallmark’s motion to dismiss the case on several measures, including First Amendment and anti-strategic lawsuit against public participation - or anti-SLAPP - claims.

The case originates from a card that Hallmark produced, titled by a caption reading “Paris’s First Day as a Waitress,” that shows Hilton telling a restaurant customer receiving a plate of food, “Don’t touch that, it’s hot.”

“What’s hot?” the customer asks.

“That’s hot,” Hilton responds, playing off an often-used catchphrase of hers, before concluding the birthday message on the inside of the card with, “Have a smokin’ hot birthday.”

Hilton, whom the appellate court described as “a controversial celebrity known for her lifestyle as a flamboyant heiress” and who is “famous for being famous,” then sued Hallmark for misappropriation of publicity and infringing on a federally registered trademark.

Judges did not rule on the merits of Hilton’s lawsuit, but rather on Hallmark’s attempts to get it dismissed. Kansas City-based law firm Lathrop & Gage LLP represents Hallmark.

The appellate judges did not accept Hallmark’s position that the card reflected publication matters in the public interest because it did not report on information, among other reasons.

Therefore, Hilton can continue with her lawsuit against Hallmark, the judges decided.

Paris Hilton has paid tribute to the late DJ AM, according to Angry Ape.

The 36-year-old DJ - real name Adam Goldstein - was discovered dead in his Manhattan apartment late last week.

Posting on her Twitter page, Hilton wrote: "Adam and I were friends since I was 15. RIP AM, I love you and you are already missed so much. My heart and prayers go out to his family and close friends. God bless."

Goldstein is the former partner of Nicole Richie and actress Mandy Moore. He collaborated with Blink-182's Travis Barker in recent years and survived a plane crash with the drummer last September.

Paris Hilton will not have to pay $8.3m in damages for failing to promote the 2006 turkey Pledge This! a court found yesterday. But she may yet have to return a proportion of her $1m acting fee, US district judge Federico Moreno said in Miami.

The hotel heiress and socialite was being sued by receivers for Worldwide Entertainment Group, a now defunct entertainment firm that was the major investor in the National Lampoon film. The lawsuit claimed she violated her contract by rejecting or ignoring requests by producers to appear on talkshows or undertake radio and magazine interviews to promote the movie.

In his ruling, Moreno said the evidence suggested that Pledge This! lost money "because the film's inexperienced producers hastily cobbled together a wholly inadequate marketing plan", rather than because Hilton had failed to meet her commitments. But he gave prosecutors until 26 August to submit arguments that she should pay back parts of her acting and producing fee.

Hilton played the president of a sorority at fictional South Beach university in Pledge This!, which made just $2.9m (£1.8m). She testified during a two-day trial last month that she had done her best to promote the movie.

"If I have my name attached to something, I want it to be as big as it can be," she said, insisting she spent more than two years promoting the film, including two high-profile trips to the Cannes film festival.

In his ruling, Moreno also said he was finding against the Pledge This! producers because the film was "hardly destined for critical acclaim". The film currently sits at No 27 on the Internet Movie Database's user-voted list of the worst movies of all time.

oug Reinhardt is proving his love to Paris Hilton by whisking her away on a romantic getaway.

He’s rented a private island in Fiji for the two of them, where they are currently spending their time deep-sea diving, Jet Skiing and even sky diving.

Sources close to Doug say he has stopped at nothing to win back Paris…

“He has been so generous and sweet, and has really impressed her with his romantic ways,” a source close to Paris tells E! News.

Insiders close to the couple say Paris is really happy: “She loves being treated like a princess…She can feel how deeply in love he is with her, and she’s having a blast.”

Sounds like it. Paris twittered earlier today: “What a fantastic day! Found so many beautiful shells on the beach and the ocean was so clear and warm! I am having the time of my life!”

The only trouble in paradise? Her sister, Nicky, doesn’t get along with Doug. “That bothers her a lot since the sisters are so close,” the source says. “But for now, she’s having the time of her life.”
